Did you know that cinnamon, a common spice used around the world, can also help you to lose weight and manage diabetes? This wonderful culinary ingredient is packed with many health and weight loss benefits!
Scientific researchers have found that among the 26 most widely used herbs and spices, cinnamon has the highest antioxidant levels (1). Specifically, the antioxidants that are protective and prevent damage caused by free radicals in the body which can cause serious damage to your health and age you faster. So far, a total of 41 different protective and beneficial compounds have been found in cinnamon by scientists (2).
The ORAC scale, which is used to measure the amount of antioxidants in foods, ranks cinnamon # 7 among all foods, herbs, and spices across the world. Cinnamon has more antioxidants than the more widely known powerful herb garlic!
The health benefits of cinnamon are due compounds called cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid and cinnamate. These compounds make cinnamon one of the most amazing spices on Earth, giving it anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and immunity boosting capabilities. The best way you can incorporate these amazing health benefits into your everyday diet is through powdered or ground cinnamon.
Anti-Inflammatory: Researchers have identified more than 7 flavonoid compounds that help lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and much more by lowering inflammation in your body. Drinking the Nourishing Weight Loss Cinnamon Tea (recipe below) will not only help you to lose weight, but also fight inflammation throughout your body and help prevent dangerous diseases.
Anti-Diabetic and Weight Loss: Insulin resistance is associated with weight gain and diabetes. When insulin resistance takes place, your body’s ability to control how much sugar enters your bloodstream goes off balance. Cinnamon blocks enzymes in your blood called alanines which allows your blood to absorb the sugar and thus balancing your sugar levels. Studies have shown that people with type ll diabetes benefit significantly by supplementing with cinnamon.
Anti-Microbial and Immunity Boosting: The natural oils found in cinnamon contain anti-fungal, anti-microbial, anti-biotic, and anti-viral factors. These oils in cinnamon help the body to defend against illnesses and naturally boost the immune system.

I personally like to make an antioxidant packed cinnamon tea. I’ve found that this tea helped previous clients manage insulin resistance and snack less and in turn lose weight. Some clients have often said this cinnamon tea also helped them eat less if sipped 5-10 minutes before a meal. Whenever you find yourself reaching for a bag of chips or candy bar or soda, make this simple tea instead and help yourself lose weight as well as nurture your body. I like to call this the simple substitution method, pick a couple (or even just one) unhealthy snack item you usually reach for and substitute it with a nourishing tea instead. Don’t substitute meals, just substitute a small snack such as cookies, chips, candy, soda, etc. As long as your caloric intake from your main meals of the day stay about the same, this one small and simple change can help you to shed a few pounds over a period of time. Use this recipe to incorporate cinnamon into your diet. It’s delicious and made with all natural wholesome and beneficial ingredients.

The great thing about this tea is you can make a big batch and keep it in the fridge and simply heat up as needed or drink cold as a refreshing iced tea. Or you can make it daily per cup, it’s entirely up to you. But I don’t recommend making more than 24 oz at a time because it’s best to keep it as fresh as possible.
First , make your tea as you normally would. Boil water in a tea kettle or pot. Use two tea bags and a couple of slices of apple ( you can also make it without the apples if you want) and let steep for 5-10 minutes. Remove apple slices and tea bags. Add a half teaspoon or one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and mix thoroughly. Sit back, breathe in the delicious aroma, take a sip and enjoy!
